"Best football team (Giants)"
Certainly debatable. Steeers, Packs, Cowboys, 49ers?

"Best pastrami (Corned Beef, Brisket, etc...)

I can't argue with those either. Although some say China has the best Chinese food lol. I think you could add best Italian delis to that list as well. And how about best night life? Certainly.

Best Dead shows? Absolutely. I've always said that, and stand by it. Though CA is a close 2nd there as well.

Ok ok as a lifelong giants fan I sorta ignored reason on that one... but that's a fan's prerogative no? I might also add best bars and concerts generally to the list. One of the best parts of living in the city is that no matter who you want to see... eventually they'll play NYC.

"Best CITY IN THE WORLD "

pre 1990 I would agree but since then it has become Disneyland north and lost so much of its character. Man I loved hanging out in the City back in the 80's. Great Dead shows and just an amaziing alternative reality experience, like no where else in North America. Too bad they had to go and sterilize the whole place. I mean a dog park in Washington Square? Family entertainment in Times Square and Bryant Park...that used to be the Rastafari guantlet...the customer got to pick which bag they wanted to buy while on the way to the airport. I loved old, dirty, scarey NYC,or as we used to call it "The cop free zone" where you didn't have to look over your shoulder expectng some bored cop to be hassling you about smoking a doob on the street corner as they had real crime to deal with. I remmeber some amazing Halloween Parades in the Village. I need a Momouns fix badly.

I live in Seattle now and the only best we have is:

Vancouver BC has the best Chinese food in North America, NO DOUBT! Even Squamish has better Chinese food than anything you'll find in the USA.

About 200 languages are spoken in New York, most in North America, and 2nd only to London.
